Case Study: Skyscanner

The client required 15 presentation decks for a large-scale, 2-day event which was attended by the company’s 1,500 global employees. The presentations were to showcase the company’s successes from the previous year and generate excitement for their future projects.

The Client

SkyScanner is an Edinburgh-based online travel company with over 100 million monthly users across the world. Their website and app allow people to compare and book flights, hotels and cars in one place, leading a global transformation in holiday booking practices. SkyScanner is a market leader in the travel industry and their site is now available in 30 different languages.

The Challenge

SkyScanner had recently undergone a rebrand which made it especially important to adhere to the company’s brand guidelines. The event itself also had its own branding that needed to be displayed across all the presentations. As there were so many decks, this presented a challenge as we needed to ensure consistency across the presentations, but also make each one unique and engaging in its own right. 

We also needed to ensure a clear, consolidated message was delivered across all decks. Our challenge was to come up with different and inventive ways to deliver the same message across all the decks in an interesting and engaging way. 

Another challenge we faced came as a result of the sheer size of the event and the company. The large-scale nature of the project meant there were many people involved in the design process. A crucial task we undertook was establishing an efficient line of communication between us and SkyScanner’s internal team to ensure their needs and brief were met.

Approach

After close consultation with SkyScanner’s internal team, we put together a detailed plan for the project. We developed an understanding of the message SkyScanner were looking to portray and designed their slides with their new branding (and event branding) in mind. 

Due to the large scale of the task ahead, we decided to create a presentation template using the appropriate branding which could be adapted for each individual presentation deck. We adhered closely to the brand guidelines and ensured the images and style we embraced conveyed the excitement and celebratory message of the entire presentation. 

We worked closely with everyone involved in the design process at SkyScanner, collaborating rapidly and in real time using Slack channels to ensure the brief was met. We managed our time effectively to work through each deck and ensured amendments were carried out swiftly and efficiently.

On the week of the event, we sent our Lead Creative to SkyScanner’s London office to support their team through the dress rehearsal and event setup. We were also on site during the event itself making ongoing and last minute amendments.

Results

The finished presentations created a huge impact at the event. The slides effectively highlighted the year’s achievements whilst also generating excitement for projects for the future. Each deck was engaging and unique, while still adhering to the brand guidelines and remaining consistent in design throughout. 

The visually exciting slides complimented the executive speakers’ presentations and dispersed SkyScanner’s ideas and plans to the crowd. They successfully grasped and maintained the attention of the large audience across the two day conference. Attendees were left impressed by the creative and stimulating slides that accompanied each presentation.
